1 So remember your Creator in the days of your youth: Before the days of adversity come, and the years approach when you will say, “I have no delight in them.” Ecclesiastes 12:1
Most days, I wouldn’t say I’ve forgotten God. I believe in Him. I pray. I read Scripture. But it’s surprising how far I can get into my day before I notice how little I’ve thought about Him as I move through it.
I see it most clearly when one of my kids comes to me while I’m trying to finish something. I might be listening, but part of me is already planning how to return to my work. I know God made this child, but in that moment, I can treat their presence like an intrusion instead of a gift.
Then I hear the Teacher say, Remember your Creator. I start to wonder what it would look like to remember Him right then. Here’s someone God made, with thoughts I haven’t heard and a life I’m invited to share. Would I listen differently if I remembered that?
The Teacher urges us to remember our Creator before the hard years come. The chances we have today won’t always be here. My kids won’t always be this age, coming to me with something they want to share.
I wonder what might change if I remembered my Creator in the ordinary moments I usually rush through.
Father, forgive me for the ways I move through life without giving You much thought. Help me remember that my life and the people in it are gifts from You. Teach me to recognize what matters in the moments You've given me.
