I Hadn’t Noticed

18 Because of laziness the roof caves in, and because of negligent hands the house leaks. Ecclesiastes 10:18

A couple of years ago, I found myself in the best shape I’d ever been.

But then I stopped. Just like that, the routine broke. The weights and equipment just sat in the garage. I walked past them every day, knowing they were there but not really seeing them.

Lately, I’ve started to find my way back. As I moved again, my mind cleared and my energy returned. I didn’t realize how used to feeling tired and foggy I had become.

The Teacher describes a house deteriorating through neglect. The roof caves in. The house leaks.

I wonder what else I’ve grown so accustomed to neglecting that I hardly notice it anymore.

Father, You know what I’ve left unattended. Help me see what needs my care, and give me the willingness to begin again.
