Stay Awake
42 Therefore be alert, since you don’t know what day your Lord is coming. Matthew 24:42
Jesus didn’t tell the disciples to figure out the date. He told them to stay awake.
The command is simple, but it keeps searching me.
Spiritual drift rarely happens in one dramatic choice. It creeps in. Attention splits. The heart gets pulled toward everything else. I end up more tuned to the noise around me than to the God who is actually with me.
His warning reaches into today, not just some future hour.
Am I living like my life belongs to Him? Am I watching what is shaping my heart right now? Or have I settled into a comfortable half-sleep while still going through the motions?
Staying awake is not an invitation to anxiety. It’s a call to pay attention. To live this ordinary day knowing He is Lord, He is coming, and my life is meant for faithful surrender.
Lord, wake me up where I’ve grown dull. Pull me back from distraction and easy complacency. Help me walk through today with open eyes and a heart ready for You.
