Like Lightning

27 “For as the lightning comes from the east and shines as far as the west, so will be the coming of the Son of Man.” Matthew 24:27

Jesus dropped this in the middle of a long stretch of warnings about people claiming secret knowledge or saying He had already arrived somewhere. His answer was simple. Lightning. When it splits the sky you don’t need anyone to tell you it happened. You don’t sit there second-guessing whether you missed it.

I catch myself doing the opposite. I scroll social media, listen to voices that claim to have the timeline figured out (even though I know better), and end up spending more energy on what God has kept hidden than on the clear things He has already said. He never asked me to solve the future. He asked me to stay awake and keep walking with Him until He shows up.

Faith grows in the ordinary places where I keep trusting the One who sees the whole sky, not in chasing every new theory.

Lord, pull my attention back when it starts wandering after predictions and noise. Keep me steady in what You’ve already made plain, and ready when You come.
