When Familiarity Replaces Expectancy

25 At that time Jesus said, “I praise you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and intelligent and revealed them to infants.” Matthew 11:25

God doesn’t seem very impressed by people who act like they’ve got it all figured out.

If I’m honest, my default mode in most situations is just “get to it and get through it.” Some mornings that’s exactly how I approach Scripture. I catch myself thinking, “Yeah, I see what I highlighted last time.” I let familiarity replace expectancy. That pride quietly shuts the door.

It’s only when I drop the act and come like a child, curious, open, and aware that I don’t know everything, that I hear Him speak.

Lord, give me a childlike heart that’s quick to listen and slow to assume. Teach me today. I’m listening.
