When Did We See You?
44 “Then they too will answer, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry, or thirsty, or a stranger, or without clothes, or sick, or in prison, and not help you?’” Matthew 25:44
What stays with me isn’t their surprise. It’s the assumption underneath it. They were sure they would have acted differently if they had known it was Jesus.
“Lord, when did we see You?”
That’s the whole point.
They had drawn a line between their relationship with Him and the way they treated people. They thought those were separate. Jesus says they never were.
I can open my Bible, pray, talk about loving Jesus, and still quietly walk past people who need mercy. A heart that has received His mercy will keep learning to give it.
Lord, don’t let my love for You stay only in my head or on my lips. Shape my heart until my compassion starts looking like Yours, and teach me to love the people You put in front of me as part of loving You.
