In the Quiet After Work

8 All things are wearisome, more than anyone can say. The eye is not satisfied by seeing or the ear filled with hearing. Ecclesiastes 1:8

Once you clear the last item and close out for the day, the room grows quiet. That is usually when a deeper weariness arrives, the kind sleep does not fully reach.

Tomorrow brings more demands on your attention. More voices will ask something of you, but Ecclesiastes names the root problem. The eye keeps looking and the ear keeps hearing, yet all of it can leave us less at rest than before.

In Every Good Endeavor, Tim Keller writes, “If the point of work is to serve and exalt ourselves, then our work inevitably becomes less about the work and more about us.”

When work has to prove we matter, even a productive day cannot give peace.

Christ has met the demands you could never meet. In Him, your standing before God is already secure. Peace is a gift you receive rather than an outcome you produce. Before you open the inbox tomorrow, make room for quiet. Place the unfinished work before God and pray, “Father, this belongs to You. Teach me to receive this day as a gift.”

Father, thank You that Your love was never tied to our productivity. Quiet our hearts and teach us to rest in what Christ has already done.
