Checked the Box, Missed the Point
23 “But the one sown on the good ground—this is one who hears and understands the word, who does produce fruit and yields: some a hundred, some sixty, some thirty times what was sown.” Matthew 13:23
I can spend hours around God’s Word and still walk away mostly unchanged.
Jesus didn’t describe good soil as the person who simply hears. He said it’s the one who hears, understands, and bears fruit. The Word was never meant to fill my head with information. It’s meant to reshape my heart and change how I live.
Too often I close my Bible feeling satisfied because I checked the box. But Jesus asks something deeper: Is anything growing in me because of what I read?
A heart that truly receives the Word will show it eventually. Growth can be slow and fruit may take time, but when it roots deep, it changes how I think, speak, and choose.
Lord, don’t let me settle for just hearing. Give me a heart that holds onto Your Word, respond to it, and bears fruit for Your glory.
