Obey the Last Thing First

12 “For whoever has, more will be given to him, and he will have more than enough; but whoever does not have, even what he has will be taken away from him.” Matthew 13:12

God doesn’t speak just to be heard. He speaks to be obeyed.

Have you ever remained half-hearted about the last thing He made clear while asking for the next thing? As if somehow more information will fix what simple obedience hasn’t. I catch myself doing this. I want fresh direction for the next thing before I’ve done the last thing.

Jesus didn’t have money or success in mind here. He was talking about hearts that receive truth. When we respond to what He shows us, something shifts. He keeps shaping us and deepening our understanding. But when we delay, or, dare I say, deny what He’s already revealed, our hearts grow duller, and we become less able to hear His voice.

So maybe the best decision we can make today isn’t requesting more information. Maybe it’s responding to what He’s already said.

Lord, give me a heart that moves when You speak. Help me stop stalling on what You’ve already shown me. Keep me soft, keep me eager, and lead me wherever You want to take me.
