Too Close to Be Amazed

57 And they were offended by him. Jesus said to them, “A prophet is not without honor except in his hometown and in his household.” Matthew 13:57

The people of Nazareth knew Jesus so well they couldn’t see him anymore.

I catch myself doing the same thing. I’ve read the same stories, heard the same truths, sung the same songs. Slowly the wonder slips away. What once felt holy starts to feel ordinary.

The real danger isn’t always being far from God. Sometimes it’s being so close for so long that I stop being amazed. I never want to get that comfortable with Jesus. I don’t want to lose the awe.

Lord, keep my heart from going numb to what is holy. Give me fresh eyes to see you again, a humble spirit ready to receive, and a faith that keeps its wonder.
