Still a Student
8 “But you are not to be called ‘Rabbi,’ because you have one Teacher, and you are all brothers and sisters.” Matthew 23:8
This verse sat with me today. Jesus was talking to people who had gotten comfortable being elevated. They liked the titles. The recognition. The best seats. They wanted people looking up to them.
I do the same thing in quieter ways.
I can want to be known as a good preacher. A solid pastor. Someone who communicates well. It’s easy to start measuring my days by how people respond.
But Jesus won’t let me forget. I’m not the teacher. I’m still a student.
That shifts something. I don’t want to spend my life becoming someone people admire. I want to become someone who helps them see Jesus more clearly. I don’t want people walking away impressed with me. I want them hungry for Him.
The real question isn’t how to become more impressive. It’s whether I’m becoming more like the One I’m following.
Lord, keep me teachable. Guard me from needing the recognition. Remind me every day that I’m still Your student. Let my life and my ministry point past me to Jesus, the only One worth following.
