Without Wedding Clothes?

12 So he said to him, “Friend, how did you get in here without wedding clothes?” The man was speechless. Matthew 22:12

The man made it inside the feast. He stood with the invited guests. Something was still wrong. He was there, but he wasn’t ready.

It’s possible to stay close to the things of God without ever giving yourself to Him. Church. Bible reading. Serving. Singing the songs. Knowing the right words. Looking like I belong while never checking whether my heart does.

His problem wasn’t lack of effort. He simply wasn’t wearing what the king required. I cannot make myself acceptable by trying harder or dressing the part. I must be clothed in the righteousness Christ gives, and that grace also changes how I live.

The question isn’t whether I look like I fit. It’s whether I’m resting in Him.

Lord, don’t let me settle for appearances. Keep me from confusing being near You with knowing You. Thank You that I don’t have to earn my place. I can rest in what Jesus has already done.
